Positioning Yourself for the Best Reef Shot

When you're looking for sharp and vibrant colors in a reef image, reduce the amount of water between your phone and your subject. In shallow water, shoot with the sun behind you so the natural light brings back the reds and oranges that the water absorbs. Hold your phone or camera steady with both hands (shooting at a slightly upward angle to capture a blue water background) and move slowly to avoid blurring or stirring the sand below you.
